Advanced technology is not only coming to construction machines but to worker protective equipment as well, including devices designed to help workers in emergencies.

On this episode of The Dirt, we hear from Christian Connolly, CEO of Twiceme, a Swedish safety company that has developed a system that instantly provides medical and other important information about an injured worker.

The system has been integrated into hard hats and vests and can be scanned by an emergency responder’s smartphone to see the individual’s important information – information that can aid quicker lifesaving action.

Twiceme was founded by ex-military personnel who witnessed injured soldiers who had no identification or information about them. They expanded the idea to other areas, including construction.

A small chip is inserted in PPE. A smartphone can scan a logo on the PPE to retrieve the information instantly.

Of course, storing medical and other information can cause privacy concerns. Connolly explains how that is protected. He also outlines other ways the technology is being used, including preventing worker injuries.
