Growing Triad company's fourth acquisition in 13 months is in the eastern San Francisco Bay area.

Saf-Gard Safety Shoe Company of Greensboro has expanded into California with the acquisition of Quenvold’s Safety Shoes of the San Francisco Bay area, the company announced Tuesday.

The acquisition is the fourth in two years for Saf-Gard, founded in 1980. It brought on industrial Protection Products of New Hampshire in August 2023, and Summit Safety Shoes of Portland, Oregon, in June, and in between entered the international market with the acquisition of Safer Safety of the United Kingdom in February.

“We are happy to welcome Quenvold’s Safety Shoes into the Saf-Gard family. This acquisition allows us to combine our strengths and deliver even more quality safety footwear to our customers,” Saf-Gard President Patrick Kubis said.

Quenvold has been in business for 55 years in Martinville, California, and carries nine brands, according to its website.

Karen Deilke, a former owner and vice president of Quenvold’s Safety Shoes, will join Saf-Gard as the northern California area manager.

“This acquisition opens doors to new benefits that will enhance our offerings,” Deilke said. “We are especially excited to add new digital capabilities including custom websites for our valued customers.”

Four other employees will also join Saf-Gard. The acquisition includes three mobile shoe store trucks and a retail location in Martinez, California.

Saf-Gard ranked No. 10 on the Triad Business Journal’s Fast 50 fastest-growing private companies in the region list released last week. The company made the Fast 50 for the fifth straight year and 12th time overall.

Saf-Gard serves customers through custom corporate workplace programs, mobile shoe stores, and brick-and-mortar retail stores, and has a line of protective eyewear as well as its core safety footwear lines. It reported 2023 revenue of $159.54 million, with 122 Triad employees and 421 overall.
